Wetpaint First to Launch Person-to-Person and Multi-Person Private Messaging for Wikis

Wetpaint Wiki users can now send single or multi-person private messages to connect and collaborate with others about their most passionate interests

April 10, 2007 -- Wetpaint (www.wetpaint.com), the consumer-friendly Wiki for collaborating and publishing online, today announced the availability of its person-to-person and multi-person messaging service. Wetpaint now offers the first consumer Wiki that empowers one-to-one, one-to-many, and many-to-many messaging capabilities. Consumers can use the feature to privately communicate, share ideas, and coordinate on topics of interest.

“When people collaborate, good things happen, whether that collaboration is taking place for the world to see or between two people wishing to have a private dialogue,” said Ben Elowitz, CEO of Wetpaint. “By empowering users to send private messages, Wetpaint furthers its commitment to providing the easiest and most convenient means for consumers to collaborate online.”

Since the June 2006 launch of the Wetpaint consumer platform, more than 300,000 user-generated community Wikis have been created. These sites have joined together people from all over the globe to collaborate on topics ranging from politics and social causes to reunions and weddings.

While consumers have enjoyed the openness of collaborating within a community, Wetpaint has heard a growing demand from users requesting private messaging. For example, moderators may want to send an alert about newly created pages that need content, or perhaps announce a contest on the Wiki. Users may also recognize a user with similar interests and want to work together on building a new page or section. Or, they may just want to get to know each other better.

Wetpaint responded to the demand. Registered members of Wetpaint sites now have access to an onsite message inbox for each community to which they belong where they can send and receive private messages to and from other registered members of the site. Typical of Wetpaint standards, the focus of this feature has been on ease of use for the average Web consumer.

To send a message to another member, all users have to do is simply click on the member's username and then select “send message.” Additionally, moderators and site creators can send "broadcast-style" messages to every user on their site by simply typing “All Registered Users” in the “To:” line.

"The new person-to-person messaging feature is great for my Wiki," said Katrina Munsell, moderator of wikiFido. "Unlike blog or other Wiki platforms, I can now connect at a personal levelwith fellow contributors as well asbroadcast important messages community-wide through my Wetpaint Wiki."
